There’s a new content aggregator on the scene: TopBuzz is billed as ‘a community built by you, for you’, so it’s no surprise that they’re on the hunt for influencers around the world to work with them on their trending news feed with a personalized touch. What’s the story?

ByteDance-owned Content discovery and distribution platform TopBuzz is the English-language version of China’s Toutiao, which MIT Technology Review is calling ‘the insanely popular Chinese news app that you’ve never heard of’ – but that won’t last long. Launched in 2012, Toutiao has gained more than 700 million total users, who spend an average of 76 minutes per day on the app. Meanwhile, TopBuzz boasts more than 1 million users in North America, UK, Japan, and Brazil, and this figure only continues to grow.

How does it work?

TopBuzz works directly with different content providers – from publishers and platforms to influencers and members of the public. Anyone who signs up can post articles, GIFs, memes or videos to contribute to TopBuzz’s various news feeds. In exchange, users are given a platform to promote their content and brand. Through machine learning and AI, the app studies how, what, and where you like content in order to create a personalized feed for each user.

Why do they want to collaborate?

Just like Facebook, TopBuzz is striving to be authentic in the fight against fake news. Relying solely on individuals for posts, as you can imagine, has the potential to be problematic. By including and cross-referencing with established news sources, as well as verified content creators and influencers, TopBuzz feeds can be informative, entertaining, and validated.

What’s in it for me?

Make more money for more views. The app says ‘you can double or triple your profits compared to other similar content creation platforms.’

Are they really a big deal?

TopBuzz is definitely getting noticed. Plus, they’ve partnered with some of the biggest names in the business: think Bloomberg, Reuters, the Associated Press, Huffington Post and many more.
