May 29, 2018:
Summer is right around the corner. In other words, it’s approaching “your makeup will probably sweat off by the time you reach your office” season. If you’re in luck and happen to be spending summer days by a pool or beach, you’re probably tweaked your makeup must-haves to include summer-friendly products. But waterproof makeup is in a league of its own.
When it comes to waterproof makeup, most of us think that it only applies to eyeliner and mascaras. But in reality, so many products (including powders!) come in great waterproof formulas. Start with a light but buildable base like Mac Pro Longwear Nourishing Foundation if you want a subtle canvas that won’t wipe off until you want it to. Kryolan (which makes theater makeup that won’t move for hours) also has a great cream foundation palette if you’re in between colors. Opt for a hardcore concealer (Estee Lauder Double Wear Concealer is hardcore and amazing at spot concealing and under-eyes). When it comes to blush and bronzer, turn to cream products to minimize cake-face: your pores will also thank you. Cargo’s Swimmables Blushes (which can also be used on the lips and eyes) and bronzers come in a variety of shades and more importantly, stay put whether you’re in the pool or out. Avoid caking on base products and instead, cover only what you truly feel you need for a breathable and natural look. To top it off, seal things with Urban Decay’s Aqua Seal setting spray, which is Olympic swim team-approved to keep things flawlessly in place.
Waterproof eye makeup is really marmite: you either love it or you don’t. Waterproof eye makeup has come a long way, and that includes brow products at all price points. NYX’s colorless, waterproof primer ensures that your brows look in place rain or shine. The Aqua Brow by Make Up Forever gives you long-lasting color without that crispy or soggy feel. Next is mascara and liner because well, we all know all too well what black liner smudges and mascara tears feel and look like. Stila Stay All Day liquid eyeliners (which come in every color from black to teal) are a beachgoer favorite, while the Inglot Gel liner (despite not advertised as waterproof) passes the budge test. For mascara, look to the drugstore for some great and affordable formulas that you’ll need some serious makeup remover to take off (like Maybelline’s Lash Sensational or Loreal’s Lash Paradise, which are equally amazing in waterproof and non-waterproof) or Too Faced’s Better Than Sex, which is a bride and wedding attendee favorite.
