Trending Now in Beauty: #TBT Noughties Style

JULY 13, 2017:

Ah, the noughties… The decade that gave us Britney and Justin, variations on The Rachel haircut, and The OC. While some may say there was a lot wrong with our early millennium icons, there’s also a lot to love – now we’re seeing a range of noughties styling tricks having a serious comeback. In the words of Mr. Timberlake: What goes around comes around (and looks even better). Here are is the top 3 making the headlines…

Frosted Tips
Would you believe it, that bleached buzzed head look favored by almost every boy band member at the turn of the century is back – and it’s being modeled by Kristen Stewart. But if you’re not growing out your pixie crop and have longer locks, then look to what Refinery29 was calling ‘the new dip dye’ back in 2016: beauty blogger Amelia Liana’s silver-bleached ends. The cooler the color, the cooler you’ll look – that’s the key.

Starry Eyes
Somehow toying the line between teen pop star and emo rocker, stars were the motif for most music fans back in the noughties. You’d wear them printed across everything from tees to belts, and probably still nod to the trend via your old pair of Converse kicks. The makeup look saw little stars drawn under the eyes in thick black liner, but now makeup artists are putting a prettier twist on the trend using glitter stickers and galaxy-like shadows.

Color Pop
Remember when everyone used to wear blue liner or baby-pink eye shadow? Well get your inner painter out and grab a palette – color is 100% making a comeback. The trick is to do it a little differently: On the catwalks, Antonio Marras used baby blue shadow buffed around the entire eye area (even above the brows), Mary Kantrantzou swooshed violet up toward the brow and then only on the outside corner of the eye, Byblos combined yellow and cobalt, and Versus Versace reworked that winged eye liner look in strong stripes of color along the eyelids. Check it out on Harper’s Bazaar.
