FEB. 09, 2017:
Couture fashion week in Paris takes place two times and year when designers show their most extravagant, most labored-over, most expensive pieces, and also when hair and makeup artists are given full reign to create their most avant-garde looks. Take a look at some of our favorites of the season, below.
Glitter cheekbones at Chanel
The mirrored palettes spotted on the gowns at Chanel were also spotted on models’ cheekbones. The look was subtle but glamorous, and we expect to see this beauty look recreated for awards season.
Orange eyes at Armani
Armani’s 2017 collection was called “Orange Vibration” with makeup to match. Melon palettes were used on Smokey eyes and lips for a youthful, artsy feel.
Loose braids at Schiaparelli
The black ribbons we saw on Michelle Williams and Sienna Miller at this year’s Golden Globes live on at couture. Schiaparelli models wore gauzy loose bows at the end of casual braids and black headbands to match. Very French, very 60s, very chic.

Sophisticated Stars at Dior
Designer Maria Grazia Chiuri went super ethereal for her first collection, with frothy gowns in pastels. Makeup artist Peter Philips underscored the otherworldly sentiment with hand-placed gold stars around the cheekbones—expect to see this look all over festival season.
Colorful hair wraps at Margiela
Always avant-garde, the hair and make-up at Margiela morphed together to create colorful, sculptural lines. makeup artist Pat McGrath and hairstylist Eugene Souleiman used string to create cohesive hair wraps that extended to the eyes and ears.
One-sided waves at Alexandre Vauthier
The spring 2017 runways showed a lot of 80s influence, so it is no surprise the trend continued into couture. Alexandre Vauthier showed fluffy, lightly waved locks that were flipped to one side and then tucked behind the ear to create an asymmetrical look. “Totally bitchin’” if you ask us.
