Out of this world: Beauty inspo from couture fashion week 2017

JULY 27, 2017:

In need of some out-there inspiration? Lucky for you, we’ve rounded up the most experimental beauty looks from the haute couture shows made for maximum impact…

Flower Girl
Floral decorations have been a big deal this year (remember succulent nail art?), and with festival season in full flow, how can any of us resist a pretty floral crown? Well, obviously haute couture took this to another level. At the Rodarte show in Paris, ethereal makeup by James Kaliardos was complemented by real flower buds on nails by manicurist Tracylee, and further elevated by baby’s breath flowers beautifully weaved through the models’ hair. You don’t need a filter – see Bustle’s 13 Pretty Flower Crowns From Instagram for how to try the look at home.

Rainbow Eyes
Makeup artist Tom Pecheux is known for his eye-catching looks… This season at Chanel, he took inspiration from all the colors of the rainbow, sweeping different shades of bright shadow across lids all the way up to the brows. It’s a beauty statement that sits somewhere between smoky eyes, the sunset trend, and a refined eighties throwback. Skye Asiyanbi captured hearts on Instagram with her similarly sophisticated shadow play.

Golden Touch
One of our favorite Instagram trends from this year was everyone’s gold face and lip mask moments. Maybe the team at Jean Paul Gaulthier felt the same way: Gold drizzled down from models’ eyes, highlighted their shoulders, and defined their hairlines. Goodbye glitter booty, hello Too Faced’s Magic Metal Formula, the company’s collaboration with influencer Kandee Johnson.

Metallic Hair
Power pair MUA Pat McGrath and hair stylist Eugene Souleiman have always turned high-fashion beauty into high art. Their eccentric, yet elegant range of looks at Maison Margiela were probably this season’s biggest talking points – from hair soaked in shampoo suds paired with glimmering mirror-like lips made using red foil, to an almost unrecognizable Gigi Hadid showing off her slicked-back metallic-blonde hair. Forget summer highlights, we want molten-metal locks.
