NOV. 29, 2016:
You’ve probably seen some of your favorite celebrities, sports teams or even political figures taking part in The Mannequin Challenge, the newest Internet sensation. If you’re living under a rock and aren’t familiar with the meme, NPR has a great explainer:
“each clip consists of people remaining completely motionless for about a minute as the camera winds its way through the area. Oh, and as this is happening Rae Sremmurd’s ‘Black Beatles’ serves as a musical backdrop.”
That is pretty much all you need to know, but if you are interested in taking on the Mannequin Challenge, here are a few tips to make yours memorable.
Do it now
Internet fads come and go faster than you can say “break the internet,” so if you do want to get in on the Mannequin Challenge action, don’t waste any time.
Pick a strong background
Destiny’s Child—yes, they reunited for a Mannequin Challenge—appears to have done theirs in a children’s play area, while Hillary Clinton created hers on her very own plane. Michelle Obama and Lebron James did theirs in the White House. If you do not have a plane or live in the White House, don’t fret, any sort of open area in which the camera can sweep effectively will work.
Get a varied group
Gather a group of surprising individuals and put them in an expected setting. Adele quite literally “rounded up” her band and background singers for their challenge, posing in what appeared to be a saloon, complete with cowboy hats.
Make sure there is action
Even though you are standing still, you want to make sure it seems like you were caught in the act. Take a cue from Blac Chyna, who staged her Mannequin Challenge while giving birth, and make it interesting with balances and expressive faces.
