Highlighters That Tick All The Boxes

Highlighter pearl color for face and shining powder, makeup brushes. Fashionable glitter make up at home

September 6, 2018:

Many beauty trends (and makeup products) come and go, but it’s safe to say highlighter is not one of those. Highlighters have been “in” for a minute and it doesn’t seem like they’re going anywhere anytime soon. Whether you’re into cream or powder, liquid or spray (yes, they, too, exist), there is no shortage of great highlighters on the market right now. But not all highlighters serve the same purpose, which is why we’ve made a list of our ride-or-die highlighters that will have you covered no matter the occasion.

Natural Glow

If you’re after a take-it-with-you-everywhere kind of product that is good on natural days (great over makeup and sans-makeup, alike), the coconut-based RMS Living Luminizer is a dewy-face go-to, as is Glossier’s Haloscope. Both have formulas that include oil/moisturizer, which tones down the highlighting but shows up just enough. Subtlety is your friend when it comes to natural glow, so aim for that no-makeup-makeup look when applying and picking your highlighter. Pro tip: apply with your fingertips on cupid’s bow, high points of the cheeks, and brow bone instead of using a brush so that the heat from your fingers can help melt the product into your skin seamlessly.

In-Between Glow

If you’re in that in-between the barely-there and blinding camp, there are several go-to’s that we rely on for that never fail glow. Becca Pressed Shimmering Skin Perfector Powder is a cult favorite that comes in several hues (more champagne or more golden), while Colourpop has become synonymous with their pigmented formulas (try “Double Down” on top of a fresh summer tan for extra pop.)

Blinding Glow

We’re talking megawatt, can stop you from a planet away, blinding kind of shine for this category (glitter not included) The aptly named Fenty Killawatt highlighter comes to mind as a frontrunner. It’s blinding enough without being glittery or chunky, which is hard to come by. It also comes in a variety of shades, making it perfect for an array of skin tones. Another great option which has several shades in one is Makeup Revolution x SophX’s Highlighter Palette.
