Lately, it seems like everyone is going “Live.” From Instagram Live Stories to Facebook Live, there’s never been an easier way to get at your followers and live in the moment. Until now.
A few weeks ago, YouTube rolled out mobile live streaming to every creator with more than 10,000 subscribers (those of us with less than that will have the feature soon.) The feature lives within the YouTube app, just open YouTube, hit the capture button, and you are live. What is super cool about these new streaming videos is that they’ll have the same features as regular videos—they can be searched, found via recommendations and protected from unauthorized use. In addition, the live chat aspect of the feature lets your followers get at you in real time.

Now, you might be asking—“that’s a cool new feature, but how will it help me build my brand and make money?” Not to worry, YouTube is already on top of that: “Super Chat” is the platform’s new live stream monetization tool. It is currently available to users in 20 countries and viewers in 40 countries, and according to YouTube is “like paying for that front-row seat in the digital age… it lets any fan watching a live stream stand out from the crowd and get a creator’s attention by purchasing chat messages that are highlighted in bright colors that stay pinned to the top of the chat window for up to five hours.”
For beauty creators, this new feature unlocks a world of opportunity. The next time you’re doing a tutorial, why not do it live? You can let your audience decide which colors and products to use for that look and perhaps generate some revenue at the same time.
