The Makeup/Skincare Essentials For Every Type of Vacation

May 17, 2018:

Narrowing down your makeup and skincare into one compact (or let’s be real, not-so-compact) bag to take with you on trips can be challenging. So we’ve put together a guide to help you pack and prep for every time of vacation, rain or shine.

City Staycation:

If you’re taking a staycation, odds are you’re probably in need of some major TLC. Think under eye masks (like the Skin Iceland Eye Gels to wear off puffiness and plump up fine lines) or Air Repair’s antioxidant-filled fast absorbing eye cream. Choose products that will take you from relaxing day in to night-on-the-town, like a foundation you can layer (opt for something like MAC Face and Body for a more natural look or Revlon Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation for a bit more coverage), a cream highlighter (RMS gets it right with an all natural formula that’s just the right amount of glowy) and a summer-y, classic bright lip like MAC’s Chili or NYX’s soft matte lip cream in San Paulo.

Sleeping in a tent outdoors doesn’t mean your skin needs to suffer. Packing light and smart is key: go for quick, multipurpose, and fuss-free products that you can chuck on easily. Yuni Shower Sheets are an absolute essential for refreshing on the go. There’s also no better time to give your hair some love. Throw it in a slick bun with a nourishing hair treatment (we love IT Hair Care’s 12-In-One) and come home to soft and smooth hair. And if you’re not ready to go completely bare-faced, Colorscience makes a great brush-on sunscreen with a tint of color. Dust the powder (which comes with a built-in brush) all over your face for slight “no makeup, makeup” coverage that’s non-greasy and backpack friendly.

Beach Getaway:

Sun, sand, and sea scream beachy hair and glowy skin makeup looks. For skin, look for products that contain hyaluronic acid — which will add moisture from the air into your skin — to quench your skin’s thirst in the heat. The Ordinary make a great budget-friendly option or opt for a cult favorite like SkinCeutical’s Intensifier. For an all over, head-to-toe glow to amp up bronzed skin, Sol de Janeiro’s travel sized Voyage Set has all the necessities: their cult-favorite and aptly named Bum Bum Cream and a matching, coconut/caramel body mist that screams beach vacation. Top it off with a natural looking, glowy body bronzer (like Vita Liberata’s Body Blur, for example) on shoulders and calves, which also looks great in photos. A sea salt spray to extend your beachside waves (like Verb’s Sea Salt Spray, which comes in a handbag sized mini!), is also a must-have for a messy, lived in look.
