July 10, 2018:

4th of July screams BBQs, pool parties, and patriotic pride. But in terms of beauty and fashion, 4th of July looks are some of the classics yet creative. Here are all the red, white, and blue-inspired trends and looks that we’ll be rocking all summer, way past July.

Classic Red Lip (with a pop)

Hands down the easiest way to add some patriotic flair to any look, a good red lip is a classic, bold, fun and elegant all in one. Don’t be intimidated by red: experiment with different tones and hues. A quick guide to which shade to pick, keep in mind that blueish reds, like Besame Red make teeth look brighter and whiter, warmer, orange-leaning colors like cult-favorite MAC Ruby Woo are highly flattering on both neutral and warm skin tones. Keep the finish in mind, too. Take the extra step and layer on a lip liner (NYX does a universally flattering shade) to extend the longevity of your red lip no matter the color or finish. For days like the 4th, when you’ll likely be biting into juicy burgers and sipping on drinks all day, matte (or satin) is the word. Although a glossy red is super enticing, avoid the mess for days you need your lip to last. Instead, opt for a comfortable matte that won’t dry out lips, like Colourpop’s Liquid Ultra Matte shade in Creeper or Sephora’s Cream Lip Stain in Always Red. Lastly, for that ultra glam pop, top off with a non-chunky, easy-to-eat-in glitter that won’t get all over you. (We love Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics)

Navy Stripes

There’s really no specific time in summer to rock navy-white stripes. Vertical or horizontal, stripes will always be in and are forever a classic, go-to warm weather staple. If rocking a full American flag isn’t your jam, white-and-navy stripes are your next best option. Its subtlety is what makes it work. A basic and breathable crew neck, like this one, is hard to mess up and pairs with almost anything. Try it tucked into boyfriend jeans for an effortlessly beachy look or with a belted denim skirt for that novelty “All-American” vibe. Stripes also look great on maxi dresses (and also give you space to breathe after that hot dog eating contest) throughout the summer. This ASOS number, as well as this heart-print cap-sleeved one from Reformation, are two that you’re going to want to wear the rest of July.

White Eyeliner

While eyeliner in the waterline has been an eye-awakening trick in the books, the flicked white liner has only recently made its way to runways this spring/summer season. Rihanna made waves in Paris rocking the white liner, teasing a possible to new Fenty liner in the works. But until that happens, we have a few that we’re loving right now. Paired with a faint red lip or fresh, dewy skin, the white liner is less intimidating than it seems. Opt for an easy-to-use-gel liner that allows you to control the flick (like this NYX one), or a pen liner (like this one) that allows you to get as close as possible to your lash line without budging.
