We blog a lot about setting and achieving goals, self- care and encouragement, but what if your daily inner monologue is getting in the way of following your dreams. The words we speak inside our heads have a direct effect on how we feel about ourselves and what we accomplish. Break the cycle and stop telling yourself these negative phrases.
“I should have…”
Mistakes are super important for your personal and intellectual development, so you should never regret them. Instead of focusing on what you should have done, refocus your attention to what you learned in the process. Think about the mistake differently: If you are ever faced with a similar situation, you’ll already know how to deal with it.
“I don’t deserve it…”
This phrase is one of the most toxic because it puts you at the bottom of your priority list. You would never say to a loved one, a partner or a child, “You don’t deserve it,” so why would you say it to yourself?

“I hate my…”
Thighs. Teeth. Skin. It could be anything. We all have those certain physical characteristics about ourselves that we wish were different. But constantly focusing on the negative does terrible things for your psyche. Your body is the most amazing tool in your wheelhouse and should be celebrated. Instead of thinking about what you would want to change, why not be content with what you have?
“go to college”… “get married… “reach my goal.” Negative thoughts like this fester in our mind and make it so we can never make our dreams come true. The most important thing to remember is that it’s never too late to work towards a goal or make a change in your life.
“(Jane Doe) is so far ahead of me.”
With social media on a constant loop in our everyday lives, it is so hard not to compare yourself to others. The person you think has the “perfect life” with more money, followers, friends, etc, also has problems that they deal with every day. The only person you should compare yourself to is yourself.
