JAN 11, 2018:
At the start of a new year, it’s easy to fall prey to some January blues, especially in the beauty and body positivity department. To help keep your spirits up, we’ve collated our favorite moments that influencers showed what they’re really made of and looked even better for keeping it real…
Colorado-based teen blogger Hailey Wait has gone from doll-like, porcelain-skin perfection to proudly putting her physical ‘imperfections’ on display in recent months. The 17-year-old revealed her first makeup-free face in October as a ‘reminder that acne doesn’t make you ugly… a heart full of hate does.’ Alongside her 80k fans, Refinery29 commended her for helping us ‘all remember that it’s all just smoke and mirrors – and Instagram filters.’

Back in 2016, health blogger and author Mel Wells called out Samsung for an automatic filter called Beauty Level 8 on her new phone. She posted a side-by-side comparison image on Instagram, alongside the comment: ‘Everyone who gets a new Samsung phone and flicks the front camera on is automatically being told, “Hi, we’re Samsung and we think you look way better than we automatically airbrush your selfies for you”… Thanks @samsungmobile for the vote of confidence, I think I’ll keep my freckles and perfections.’ See the full story at Teen Vogue.
When a fan reposted a photo of her with the caption, ‘If I could wake up as beautiful as @GinaShkeda, I’d be the happiest girl alive #naturalbeauty’, beauty vlogger Gina took to Twitter to set the record straight. Though the image depicts her lounging in bed, seemingly makeup free, Gina responded: ‘Girl I have micro bladed brows, lash extensions in and lip injections – I don’t even look like this… You’re flawless.’ Now that’s authenticity.

In September of last year, Popsugar curated a gallery of 15 beauty influencers showcasing their before-and-after makeup pictures, from Huda Kattan to Manny MUA. In an effort to remind readers that ‘you’re just as beautiful without the concealer, cat eyes, and contouring’, the images are taken from YouTube tutorials and beautifully highlights each blogger’s best features pre and post-makeup.
